Get thin quick schemes are like get rich quick schemes. If they worked then everybody would be thin and rich.
Fad diets are like get thin quick schemes. They mostly don’t work. They might work for a little while, but eventually you have to go back to eating normally, and then you’ll gain all of the weight back that you lost, and usually a little more.
The problem is that you can’t stick with the extreme changes to your eating habits that a fad diet requires. You can’t avoid carbohydrates for the rest of your life. You can’t eat cabbage soup for the rest of your life. You have to learn how to eat a healthy, sustainable diet. Plan on doing it in a way that you can stick with for the long term. It is very hard to lose weight. On average most people will put on 1 to 2 pounds per year. Over 20 years that can add up to 20 to 40 extra pounds, if not more.
Even though it usually takes many years to gain weight, our quick fix society leads us to believe that we should be able to lose that 20 to 40 pounds in one month, or even one week. And if we cannot lose the weight that quickly, then something is wrong with us.

If you look on the internet, there is so much information on health, exercise, nutrition and weight loss. If you don’t have any training in any of these fields, it can be extremely tough to determine what program will be worthwhile and is telling the truth, and what program is full of it and not being truthful in their advertising.
If you don’t have any training in these fields there is no reason why you should be able to navigate your way through this world. That is why you have to educate yourself before trying to start a new exercise or nutrition routine if you want to lose weight. Be smart about exercising and eating right. Train smarter, not harder. There are as many different diets out there as there are people. Most of these diets make outrageous claims and target people who are desperate to lose weight and don’t know how. The problem is, that diets don’t work. You just can’t maintain a drastic change to your eating routine consistently enough to lose weight and to keep it off.
